Six months ago, we opened this volume with a commitment: to track opportunity where it actually lives, not where it is easiest to find. The Midyear Opportunity Report is the first real test of that commitment.
What the first half of 2026 is telling us is complicated. Hiring in several sectors has strengthened considerably — healthcare, skilled trades, and parts of the technology sector continue to pull ahead. Yet for workers without postsecondary credentials or geographic mobility, the gains remain distant. The map of opportunity is not expanding evenly.
